KuanZhai Tobacco Gift Set

Kuaizhai is a cultural creative product design project created for a collaboration between China Tobacco Sichuan and Kuan Zhai Alley. The project aimed to enhance the customer experience by transforming local culture, stories, and lifestyle details into a meaningful supplementary product. The following is the design method of how to create a cultural creative product.

Design Method: How to create a cultural creative product.

STEP 01

Tell Story

Use research and observation to understand the cultural context, and emotional meaning.

STEP 02

Find Elements

Extract key visual and functional elements, then translate them into design language.

STEP 03

Create Scene

Connect form, function, and storytelling to create a meaningful product experience.

02

BaZhong Autumn Leaves

The logo takes the maple leaf as the core symbol to highlight Bazhong’s autumn scenery. The layered background colors are inspired by the landscape transition from sky to ground — blue sky, red-orange maple leaves, and green mountains. On the bubble bottle, Bazhong’s geographic landmarks are added as small visual elements, connecting the product more closely to the local identity and making the design more recognizable and collectible.

03

Silk Road Journey

A decorative light inspired by the Silk Road journey. The design combines layered paper-cut scenery, desert landscapes, camel silhouettes, and warm lighting to create a miniature travel scene. When the light is turned on, the layered structure creates depth and shadow, turning the object into both a lamp and a storytelling display.

Table Top

01

Wonderland

This project was developed as a collaboration between Alavro Uribe design studio and an Italian ceramic brand, BOSA. Using Alice in Wonderland as the narrative framework, the collection reimagines familiar characters and scenes as functional ceramic objects, creating a tabletop experience that feels playful, collectible, and story-driven.

02

CAVES Glassware Set

Inspired by the layered forms of Bazhong’s caves, this glassware set translates natural cave textures into the bottom structure of the cup. When liquid is poured in, the transparent glass and raised terrain create a changing landscape-like reflection, turning the drinking experience into a small scene of mountains, water, and light.

Furniture

01

The Hat Chair

The Hat Chair explores how traditional Chinese seating culture can be reinterpreted through a modern Scandinavian design language. The simple wooden frame, upright backrest, and detachable felt seat create a chair that feels minimal, warm, and functional, while encouraging a more polite and healthy sitting posture.

Sculpture

01

The Sake Set

This sake set explores the balance between object and sculpture. Through flowing ceramic forms and a warm wooden base, the design creates a quiet tabletop scene where each piece can be used, arranged, and appreciated as part of a ritual experience.

02

Concavity Cube

Concavity Cube explores how subtraction can shape space. By carving soft circular voids into a rigid cube, the piece creates a dialogue between solid and empty, hard and soft, structure and movement.
